Episode 2 - Baby Shark

Ron Jones

Updated: Jan 5, 2022

Nick goes fishing with some friends and they hook a shark. The attempt to bring the shark onto the boat reveals how we think about potentially damaging situations. Many times we can see how bringing something into our lives might cause us harm, yet we persist in pursuing it. If you have alcoholism in your family perhaps it isn't a good idea to drink alcohol. Certain relationships attract us when we know from past experience we should not get involved. Should I eat this food (or this amount of food). This is not a new problem, it is the same issue Adam and Eve faced in the garden. Lots of people seem to believe a relationship with the Holy Spirit would prevent them from having "fun" or living freely, but the opposite is true. The Holy Spirit is not the person who creates a life full of scruples, he brings a life of freedom and he is very patient with us regarding our choices. What he wants is for us to see the truth and choose the best. His voice to us isn't just the voice of reason, it is the voice of love. When we refuse to listen to him, he never leaves us and he is still there, ready to help us clean up the mess.

Questions:

- What is our fascination with destructive things all about?

- Have you found yourself repeating a destructive behavior even though you realize it is harmful? Have you thought about inviting the Holy Spirit to speak into the situation?

- Can you recall a time when the Spirit warned you about a damaging situation?

- Do you believe a relationship with the Holy Spirit keep you from having fun?

Scriptures:

The passing pleasure of sin Hebrews 11:25

The fascination of sin in the garden Genesis 3:6
